Verify Chrome DevTools MCP is available by calling `list_pages` 2. If unavailable or connection issues: - Ask user for CDP URL if they have Chrome running - Or guide them: `google-chrome --remote-debugging-port=9222` - Use `new_page` to create a browser tab if needed ## Core Workflow ### Step 1: Understand Context **Before writing any code**, analyze the situation: 1. **Check for existing automation code** in the codebase: - Search for Playwright imports/usage patterns - Identify existing base classes, utilities, or helpers - Note coding conventions (sync vs async, class-based vs functional) - Find existing selectors patterns and preferences 2. **Determine the task type**: - **New automation**: Create from scratch following existing patterns - **Debugging**: Investigate why existing code fails - **Improvement**: Enhance existing scripts with new capabilities 3. **If existing code found**: Follow its patterns exactly. Do not introduce new structures or templates that conflict with established conventions. ### Step 2: Explore the Live Page Use Chrome DevTools MCP to understand the target page: 1. `navigate_page` - Load target URL 2. `take_snapshot` - Get accessibility tree (best for finding selectors) 3. `evaluate_script` - Run JS to analyze DOM structure 4. `take_screenshot` - Capture visual state for reference 5. `list_network_requests` - Discover API endpoints that might be easier to use **For debugging existing code**: - Navigate to the exact state where the script fails - Compare expected vs actual DOM structure - Check if selectors still match current page structure - Look for timing issues (elements loading late) ### Step 3: Find Reliable Selectors When identifying selectors, prioritize stability: 1. `[data-testid="..."]` or `[data-cy="..."]` - Test attributes 2. `role=button[name="..."]` - ARIA roles 3. `[aria-label="..."]` - Accessibility labels 4. `#element-id` - IDs (if stable) 5. `[name="..."]` - Form element names 6. `text="..."` - Visible text content 7.
